We need your unwanted mobile phones!
A Call for Unwanted Mobiles
The Bradfield Centre and Cambridge Online are collecting unwanted mobile phones for gifting to those in need!
You will find a purple collection box on the ground floor near reception where you can donate any phones. Please reset any mobiles before placing in the box - and include its charger if possible.

All donations will be professionally reset and refurbished by our IT partner, Sustainable Tech 4 Good before distribution.
Please feel free to give us a call, or drop us an email if you have any questions.

FAQ's
Who is responsible for data cleansing / managing GDPR?
- We ask all donors to reset their phones before placing them in the collection bin.
- Where this does not happen, our IT partner Sustainable Tech 4 Good (ST4G) will undertake this as part of the refurbishment process (conforming to ISO standards).
- No data can be reclaimed once the device is handed over.
- More information can be found on the ST4G website.
What happens to the phones once they are ready for gifting?
- All the devices will be gifted free of charge, often with a complimentary SIM card. They are never sold, and each recipient is asked to provide the reason for their equipment request which is submitted via our website (e.g. single parent, refugee, low income/ unemployed, suffering from loneliness or isolation).
Where are the phones donated? Are they sent abroad?
- Any donated devices will stay in the local area (Cambridge)
How will the phones be distributed
- Cambridge Online will use its existing online triage system to assess and prioritize any requests.
- We will also work with selected partners such as the police and local NHS to identify those in particular need.
What happens if Phones are donated without a charger, battery, or just don’t work?
- Cambridge Online / ST4G will attempt to ‘refurbish’ as many devices as is economically viable: there will inevitably be some phones that can’t be used and are effectively discarded. These will be recycled to reduce CO2emissions and also help fund the work.
What happens with regard to any locked phones?
- ST4G will attempt to open and reset the phone (where required). If this is not possible, then they will be recycled as outlined above.
A donor subsequently asks for their phone back: is this possible?
- No: as the devices are gifted anonymously, we cannot reasonably trace and recover them once they have been collected from the partner.
Can we inform a donor of the outcome of their gift?
- No (as the devices are collected anonymously)
